Categories of Water

If you have a water leak depending on where the leak is coming from you might now know what type it is. There are 3 types of water categories that can help you determine what kind of water damage you are dealing with. What color is your water, know the difference!

There are 3 Categories of Water

Category 1- Clean Water

Clean water comes from a clean source such as your sink or shower. Clean water or treated water is the least contaminated type of water damage. By definition, Clean water is “clean” because it doesn’t not harm the human body.  If left untreated it could quickly turn in to a Category 2 or 3

Category 2 Gray Water

Gray water has some contamination that is harmful to the body. It has bacteria and fungi which can cause the water to look gray. If it is not cleaned up in a timely manner, the water will become more contaminated. Dishwasher, or Washing Machine would be an example of Gray Water.

Category 3 water- Black Water

Black water is grossly contaminated water. It is Very unsanitary, it could cause serious illness, and should be avoided. Sources for Category 3 water could be backed up toilet with feces, septic backed up, flooding from rivers and streams
